High marks, practical experience and community involvement have paid off for Walkerville Collegiate Institute senior Tacen Huezo.
He is among a select number of Canadian high school students to be awarded an $80 thousand Schulich Leadership Scholarship and will attend Queens University in September to study Computing. Every Canadian high school can nominate a student for this award but only 100 are selected each year.
Tacen's goals for the future include starting an innovative cryptography company. He states, "As more of our lives become digital, I plan to work with like-minded peers to create new ways of keeping data private and safe."
Tacen is a multiple winner of the WCI Honours and Principal’s awards during his high school career. He has completed the Youreka Kingston Program – a university level course which teaches students about citizen science and allows them to conduct their own research to address issues within their communities. Tacen has also worked in his chosen field with Code Ninjas, helping kids learn to code.
Director of Education, Erin Kelly states, "The 118kj¿ª½±ÏÖ³¡ sends our congratulations to Tacen on this outstanding accomplishment. Recognition such as this speaks to his hard work, skill and talent. I know we will continue to hear great things throughout his studies at Queens University and in the future."
Best of luck and congratulations, Tacen!
